International Yoga Day 2023 is an opportune time to shed light on the importance of yoga asanas in mitigating the negative impacts of a sedentary lifestyle. With the rise of work-from-home practices, prolonged sitting and reduced physical activity have become commonplace. Such a lifestyle takes a toll on our overall health and well-being. Addressing this concern, Yoga Master Akshar, Founder of Akshar Yoga Institutions, emphasizes the significance of incorporating yoga into our daily routine.

According to Akshar, individuals engaged in desk jobs or spending considerable time in front of computers should prioritize yoga as a means to prevent long-term health issues. Yoga not only strengthens the core and tones the body but also enhances flexibility, endurance, and immune function.
To combat the adverse effects of a sedentary lifestyle, Akshar recommends several yoga asanas:
Santholanasana: This asana targets the thighs, arms, and shoulders while enhancing core strength.
Chaturanga Dandasana: Regular practice of this asana improves overall muscle flexibility and prepares the body for more advanced poses.
Vashishtasana: By stretching the arms, shoulders, chest, abdomen, legs, calves, and ankles, this asana strengthens and lengthens multiple muscle groups.
Chakrasana: The wheel pose opens the heart and chest while stimulating the adrenal glands.
Pashimottanasana: The Seated Forward Bend promotes spine mobility and overall flexibility.

Akshar highlights that practicing yoga helps combat the detrimental effects of a sedentary lifestyle, keeping the body active, fit, and flexible. It prevents muscle rigidity, which can lead to joint problems, inflammation, and conditions such as arthritis.
As we observe International Yoga Day 2023, let us embrace these yoga asanas as a way to counterbalance the sedentary lifestyle and nurture our physical and mental well-being. Yoga is a holistic practice that promotes vitality, resilience, and a harmonious connection between the mind, body, and spirit.
